WORLD CUP 2018 – ENGLAND BEATEN BY BELGIUM (2-0) FAIL TO GET THIRD PLACE

One of the characteristics of the 2018 World Cup has been the waste of talents of certain teams facing opponents with wrong or no strategy at all. In this context, two teams come to mind: Brazil and England who have paid dearly for not adopting the right tactics against their opponents.
Look at Brazil’s loss to Belgium (2-1) in the quarter finals, look at England against Croatia and now Belgium in their match for third and fourth place.
Their failure against teams like these with strong defences was their insistence in mobilizing the whole midfield and attack wasting their time in useless passes and triangulations void of purpose just outside the area hoping to filter through a forest of legs and heads to score goals. Infallibly, all it took was losing the ball after a wrong pass, to give their opponents the luxury of fruitfull counterattacks.
All we saw in the England-Belgium match was just that.
