GOALS GALORE IN IRELAND-BULGARIA FRIENDLY IN DUBLIN YESTERDAY – Report by Serena Di Capua

With three goals to one last night at the Aviva in Dublin, Ireland liquidated Bulgaria in a friendly which gave new coach Mick McCarthy his sixth unbeaten game. After a first half void of emotions in which Bulgaria threaten the Irish goal a few times, it was in the second half that the Irish took the lead 56 minutes into the game with Browne on a Hogan’s assist.
Bulgarian reaction was immediate and their equalizer came when, with 24 minutes remaining Bozhidar Kraev was tripped by Egan and a penalty was awarded with Popov converting from the spot.
Little did all know that the hosts added two more goals with Long on the 83’ and Collins three minutes later turning the match into a sensational win.
