THE LEGACY OF ITALIAN ARCHITECT ANDREA PALLADIO
Andrea Palladio (1508-1580), the 16th century Italian architect, is world famous for his innovative designs which influenced architecture not only in Italy but in the entire world. He left a great legacy of 47 villas in the region of Veneto plus a number of churches. The innovative elements of his designs was that a villa had to be built in beautiful settings, it should be inspired to the classical world with columns and porticos and possibly very symmetrical on four sides. In many countries of the world, including Ireland, this concept was adopted so some famous buildings such as the White House for example.
