AN OPERA ABOUT DANTE BY IRISH COMPOSER PATRICK CASSIDY

Writing an opera on Dante and the Divine Comedy seems extremely unusual or almost impossible, due to the complexity of the subject. Not for Irish orchestral, choral and film score composer Patrick Cassidy who has done just that.
From Los Angeles where he resides, he was in Dublin last night as guest of the Italian Institute of Culture to present to a packed audience at the National Library of Ireland a glimpse of such monumental undertaking entertaining us with some of the musical and singing scores of the opera. It was one of those rare nights which made us Italians feel proud about Dante, the father of our beloved language.
The opera will be premiered in Italy for the 2021 celebrations of the 700th anniversary of Dante’s death.
Last night’s event was organized in the framework of the launch this June of the first Dublin Dante Summer School.
